What now?

It is important to recognise that everyone reacts differently after experiencing crime. The affects of crime vary from person to person.

Experiencing crime can have an impact on someone's physical, emotional and mental well-being. People may feel angry, upset, afraid after experiencing crime or may experience physical symptoms such as difficulty sleeping or feeling unwell. How people react depends on a number of factors:

  • The type of crime experienced
  • The level of support from friends and family
  • If something has happened more than once

Anyone who has been affected by crime can access support to help cope and recover. Support is available from the Victim and Witness Hub or over 250 other organisations operating locally.
